Popular for its fun-filled festivities, New Year’s Eve (31st December) and New Year’s Day (1st January) are the most celebrated holidays around the world. It is the day to celebrate new beginnings and attempt to start a fresh by learning from the past and planning to do better in the future. Making New Year resolutions is one of the most popular activities associated with this day. Many wish to lose that extra weight on their body while others make resolutions to do better at school to score better or work hard and get a promotion. As this quote by the famous twentieth-century poet and pacifist Edith Lovejoy Pierce goes, “We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year’s Day.”
